Our Surfboards
There are a variety of build methods for timber surfboards today that include; Solid builds, often from Balsa, Foam core, which is basically a foam surfboard with a timber skin, Chambered, a method that involves removing as much timber as possible from solid planks before laminating them together. And Hollow builds, which have an internal timber skeleton over which a timber hull and deck are applied. The techniques for building these boards are also varied going from fully hand made, where every piece is cut, shaped and glued into place by hand, to computer designed kits that are machine cut and then put together using moulds and jigs.
At Freedom Surfboards only traditional techniques of board manufacture are employed where every piece of timber is selected according to its functionality and beauty and used to shape the rails and ribs over which hand shaped planks are combined to create the hull and deck of a fully functional hollow board.
Using rare and often salvaged, second life timber, Freedom Surfboards are unique, fully functional works of art, specifically designed to capture and preserve the beauty and joy that both nature and surfing provide.
